Collection - Her Saris.

For this project we had to focus on a collection that we own or that is owned by someone else. For my collection I decided to look at my mothers saris.

When I was young I looked up to her, seeing her in these gorgeous garments. I used this as a narrative for this project. The idea of ‘looking up’ and her being my ‘hero’ was the strongest narrative I could follow.

Photographs were taken from a low angle would show how as a child I would be looking up at my mother. Even the idea of using old photographs of me dressing up in a cloth to symbolise a sari seemed so simple and straightforward. This project has helped me experiment and develop my photography and editing skills.

I’ve named this editorial piece “HER SARIS” as it’s quite personal without naming who the collection is about. It gives a sort of mystery. Having the title placed on an image looks quite powerful. Using a photograph of my mother without the eyes included gave a mystery to her, as if you wanted to find out more about her.
